The police have apprehended a suspected serial rapist in Mashonaland Central who is accused of sexually assaulting women and engaging in robberies in the Madziwa area between January and December of last year.
The suspect, 38-year-old Luckmore Mazambani, allegedly targeted women who were alone at home before committing the crimes. Inspector Milton Mundembe, the Mashonaland Central Police Spokesperson, stated that Mazambani was already wanted for another rape case in 2021, and from January to December last year, he sexually assaulted three additional victims.
In one incident in January 2023, it is alleged that Mazambani broke into the house of a 47-year-old woman during the night and raped her before stealing her cell phone and groceries. The suspect is also accused of deliberately infecting his victims with HIV.
Mazambani’s luck eventually ran out when the police received a tip-off and arrested him on December 29th. During the arrest, stolen property worth US$265 was recovered, and the victims positively identified him in a line-up.
