Chinese Embassy Hands Over Refurbished Infrastructure at Chiwaridzo Primary School
The Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe has handed over refurbished infrastructure to Chiwaridzo Primary School in Bindura, marking a significant contribution to the educational development of the region.

The handover ceremony, which coincided with the school’s Speech and Prize Giving Day, took place on Thursday, 28 November 2024.

Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Zhou Ding, presided over the event, which included speeches, cultural performances, and the presentation of prizes to outstanding students.
“Education is vital to personal growth and social development,” said Ambassador Ding. “Under H.E President ED Mnangagwa’s policy of ‘leaving no one and no place behind’, Zimbabwe has made continuous progress in developing its educational sector.”
He highlighted China’s ongoing support for Zimbabwe’s education sector, including funding for the construction of several universities and schools.
“China will continue to work with the Government of Zimbabwe and all stakeholders to empower our youth and children and to cultivate talents for Zimbabwe,” he added.
Ambassador Ding also announced plans to bring solar-powered classrooms to rural communities across Zimbabwe and provide further emergency food assistance to address the drought-induced food crisis.
Levi Katambarare, Deputy Director in the office of the Minister of State for Mashonaland Central Provincial Affairs and Devolution, read a speech on behalf of Minister Christopher Magomo.

“Their generous support in renovating and painting our school premises reflects a commitment to enhancing the educational environment for our children,” Katambarare said, referring to the Chinese Embassy’s contribution.
He expressed gratitude for China’s ongoing support for Zimbabwe’s development and highlighted the importance of education in achieving the goals of the National Development Strategy 1.
Headmaster Edison Chuwe expressed his appreciation for the renovations and donations, which included computers, school bags, and stationery.
“It was a great day for our school,” said Chuwe. “We received a lot of visitors across the board. We want to thank the Chinese Ambassador for gracing the occasion. We have received a lot of things from the community. And the Chinese today. We were happy to see computers from the Chinese, gifts of bags to our learners, stationery and so forth.”
“They managed to paint the whole school and replace the doors, the window panes, and the pumping system,” he added.

Chuwe expressed hope for continued collaboration between Zimbabwe and China in the future.
Chiwaridzo Primary School has an enrolment of 1,455 learners and 41 teachers. It is a model school in Bindura and in Mashonaland Central province.
