Tafirenyika Jamu was convicted of robbery by the Chipinge Magistrate’s Court.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Jamu and two accomplices, Tinashe Chisai and Kudzai Gapara, tricked the traditional healer into letting them into his home by pretending to seek healing services.
Once inside, they claimed to be police officers and falsely arrested the healer, accusing him of performing rituals on Gapara’s wife. They then took him to another location, where they assaulted him and demanded money.
The traditional healer handed over US$34 and 2000 Mozambican Meticais.
Jamu was subsequently arrested and sentenced to six months in prison. His accomplices remain at large.
