FRGM Mourns Colleague Stewart Chigora

It is with deep and sincere sadness that Freda Rebecca Gold Mine (FRGM) mourns the untimely passing of Mr. Stewart Chigora, a dedicated and long-serving employee, who tragically passed away in an underground accident on 24th February 2025.

Stewart Chigora, born on 30th September 1973, joined FRGM on 21st March 1994 as a general worker. Over the years, he demonstrated his commitment and expertise, progressing through various roles within the organisation. In 1997, he transitioned to the Assay Lab, where he served as a Sampler, Sample Preparer, and Furnace Assistant. In 2004, he advanced to the position of a Tyre Fitter under the Mining Engineering Department. Stewart’s dedication and hard work culminated in his appointment as an LHD Operator in October 2021, a role he held until his untimely death.

Stewart Chigora is survived by his wife and four children. His loss is profoundly felt by his family, friends, and colleagues at Freda Rebecca Gold Mine. The Managing Director, Patrick Maseva-Shayawabaya, expressed the collective grief and condolences on behalf of the Board, Management, and Staff of FRGM:

“It is with deep and sincere sadness that we advise of the untimely passing of Mr. Stewart Chigora, a Freda Rebecca Gold Mine employee. Mr. Chigora passed away in the early hours of Monday, 24 February 2025, in an unfortunate accident underground. On behalf of the Board, Management, and Staff of Freda Rebecca Gold Mine Limited, I would like to convey our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. Our prayers and thoughts are with him and his loved ones during this trying time. May his dear soul rest in peace.”

Stewart Chigora was laid to rest today at his rural home in Mt. Darwin. His dedication and contributions to FRGM will be remembered with gratitude and respect.
