Tinashe Jongwe was issued with a protection order by Magistrate Meenal Narotam after his former wife, Agness Chidodo, accused him of physical and emotional abuse.
“He sent me a message threatening to kill me after he discovered that I was planning to remarry,” Chidodo told the court.
“I felt intimidated and was forced to change the dates for the ceremony because his threats sounded genuine.”
“I want to move on but his actions and threats are making me feel uncomfortable,” she added.
Jongwe claimed that he and Chidodo were only separated and that he had been paying her rent for the past two years.
“We have a son together,” Jongwe explained. “I feel betrayed by her and she has been taking advantage of my kindness while planning to marry another man. I was taking care of her needs, including paying her rent with the hope that we were going to reconcile our differences but, instead, she moved on and planned to get married to another man.”
He expressed his distress at the thought of Chidodo marrying another man and his son being raised by someone else.
“I can’t watch her marry another man and let my son be raised by another man,” he said.
Magistrate Narotam granted the protection order, barring Jongwe from contacting or visiting Chidodo.
“The court will not tolerate any form of violence or intimidation towards Chidodo,” she ruled. “The protection order is granted to ensure Chidodo’s safety and well-being.”
