Minister Mhona Visits Scene of Harare-Beitbridge Highway Accident

Following the devastating accident on the Harare-Beitbridge highway that claimed 25 lives and left many others injured, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Hon F.T Mhona, visited the accident scene yesterday. He then proceeded to Beitbridge Hospital to see the injured and paid his respects to the bereaved families at Doves funeral parlour.
In an interview with the media, Hon Mhona stated that the responsible authorities would take action to prevent such tragedies in the future, emphasising that reckless driving, which disregards the sanctity of life, would not be tolerated. Investigations revealed that the bus driver’s retest had expired in 2021 and the bus lacked a valid route permit.
The accident has been declared a national disaster by H.E. President Cde Dr E.D Mnangagwa, who announced that those who perished would receive State-assisted funerals. Hon Mhona was accompanied by Hon D Garwe, Minister of Local Government and Public Works, and Hon E. Ndlovu, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Matabeleland South.
