Cricket Scotland has expressed gratitude to Zimbabwe Cricket for facilitating their upcoming tour, which is set to take place in Harare next month. The tour, aimed at preparing Scotland for the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 (CWCL2) matches, will see the team play against Zimbabwe ‘A’ and the Zimbabwe Academy side.

Steve Snell, Cricket Scotland’s head of performance, highlighted the importance of the tour, stating, “The men’s fixture list is extremely busy this summer, and given the squad’s lack of competitive matches since the USA series last year, it was imperative to arrange valuable 50-over practice ahead of our CWCL2 campaigns.” He added, “I’m grateful to Zimbabwe Cricket for their organisation and flexibility in hosting us in Harare, allowing us to face quality opposition.”

The Scotland squad, led by coach Doug Watson, includes a mix of experienced players and emerging talents. Notable names such as captain Richie Berrington, wicketkeeper Matthew Cross, and spinner Mark Watt will be joined by promising youngsters like Charlie Cassell and Jasper Davidson. The team aims to use the tour to refine their strategies and gain match experience in subcontinent-like conditions, which will be crucial for their World Cup qualification bid.

The tour will feature five matches, including two T20s and three 50-over games. The fixtures begin on 19th April with a T20 match against the Zimbabwe Academy, followed by 50-over clashes against Zimbabwe ‘A’ on 24th, 26th, and 28th April. These matches are expected to provide Scotland with the competitive edge they need ahead of their CWCL2 campaigns in the Netherlands and at home.

Snell emphasised the significance of the tour for Scotland’s World Cup ambitions, saying, “These matches will be vital as we aim to strengthen our qualification bid for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027.” With Scotland currently in a strong position in the CWCL2 standings, the tour offers an opportunity to build momentum and experiment with team combinations.
