Masvingo – A security company employee has been sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment after setting an office ablaze in an attempt to conceal evidence of a theft he had committed.

Tennat Chiremba (26), who was employed by Muzpen Security Company, stole US$975 from the company’s office.

He then started a fire in the office, intending to destroy evidence of his crime.

The fire caused significant damage to the office and property valued at US$16,010.

Detective Inspector Rachel Muteweri, spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police Criminal Investigations Department, confirmed in a statement that Chiremba appeared at Masvingo Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday following his arrest by detectives from CID Masvingo.
