Two-Year-Old Killed in Alleged Dispute Over R20

A 22-year-old Zimbabwean man has been accused of killing a two-year-old boy in South Africa, allegedly over a debt of R20. The tragic incident occurred on 8 April 2025, leaving the community in shock and mourning.

The accused reportedly claimed that the boy’s mother owed him the money and had delayed repayment. However, relatives of the deceased have disputed this claim, insisting that no such debt existed. The child, identified as Siyanda Ndlovu (Gwabavu), was buried on Sunday, 13 April 2025, amidst heightened tension.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Moreboys Munetsi, a close relative and director of Greathope Funeral Services, confirmed the incident and expressed the family’s determination to seek justice. “Seventy percent of his neck was cut, and the accused claimed he committed the offence because he was owed R20 by the mother of the deceased. But the mother denied owing him any money,” Munetsi said.

Munetsi also highlighted the emotional toll on the family, stating, “It’s a very painful experience to bury a two-year-old child. The little child couldn’t defend himself.” He pledged to provide legal support to the family, adding, “If they want to pursue this case, I will be there for them to get justice.”

The boy’s father revealed that they are still awaiting feedback from the investigating officer. Munetsi further noted discrepancies in the accused’s account, pointing out that no photographs were taken at the crime scene. “We need justice for this case, but we will continue to preach the gospel of peace and love,” he said.
