Finance Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube proposed the change during his presentation of the 2025 National Budget.

“In order to promote access to local specialist medical services and related value chains for pre and post-medical attention, I propose that legislation be amended to remove the restriction on advertising and marketing of medical services,” Professor Ncube announced.

He argued that the current ban hinders public awareness of available health services and undermines the competitiveness of local providers, particularly in light of rapid technological advancements in the medical field.

If the amendment proceeds, Zimbabwe will join other African countries, including South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, and Nigeria, where advertising of medical services is permitted with minimal government interference.

This move could potentially improve access to healthcare for Zimbabweans, who often face challenges in finding information about available services.

It could also boost the local health sector by allowing providers to promote their services and compete more effectively.
