13 Zimbabweans Killed in Bus Collision on N1 Highway in South Africa
A tragic accident on the N1 Highway near Hex River Pass in South Africa claimed the lives of 13 Zimbabwean passengers on Saturday evening. The coach belonging to Simplex Bus Company collided with a haulage truck, leaving another 26 passengers injured, some critically.
The bus was travelling from Harare, Zimbabwe to Cape Town, South Africa when the accident occurred approximately 130 kilometres outside of Cape Town. The cause of the collision remains under investigation by South African authorities.
Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene and transported the injured to Worcester Hospital for urgent medical attention. Sadly, the bus driver is reported to have died at the scene after attempting to jump from the vehicle.
Zimbabwe’s Consul General in Cape Town, Ms Esther Mudambo, has assured that further details regarding the accident will be released as they become available. The injured passengers have since been transferred to Noodsentrum Hospital for further treatment.
