A 14-year-old Girl Died After Giving Birth to Twins

A 14-year-old girl (name supplied) died after giving birth to twins. The man who raped and impregnated her, Tatenda Zhanje, was arrested after attempting to alter the birth records of the deceased girl.

The incident occurred in Glenwood, and the vehicle carrying the teenage girl’s body to Murehwa for burial was intercepted by police and forced to return to Highlands Police Station. Initial reports claimed Yeukai was 14 before the story changed amid claims that she was 16.

Medical records at the Sally Mugabe Hospital were altered in an attempt to make it seem like she was 18. Tatenda had been missing but appeared at Highlands Police Station and was arrested. He claimed he was 24 before changing his story to say he was 22, and his identity card was allegedly lost on his way to the police station.

Tatenda was released to bury the girl and is expected to report to the police for further questioning. Reports suggested that a new birth certificate claiming the girl was 18 had been acquired. The original birth certificate was destroyed, and a new one claiming she was 18 was issued.

The twins are said to be in good health and being cared for by Tatenda’s mother.
