An apostolic sect leader in Harare is facing allegations of physically abusing his wife, resulting in a miscarriage, due to her failure to disclose her HIV status.

Tarisai Kapuya sought a protection order against her husband, Worship Muranda, at the Harare Civil Court.

Kapuya claimed that the abuse had escalated, and Muranda had even threatened to kill her. She also mentioned that he forced her to hand over her salary as a teacher and that he embarrassed her in front of his church congregants.

However, Muranda denied the allegations and accused his wife of having extramarital affairs and hiding her HIV status from him. He added that he had stopped her from going to work due to suspicious calls from men at her workplace.

Magistrate Sharon Mashavira granted Kapuya’s application for a peace order.
