Bangladesh Clinch Dominant 6-Wicket Win Over Zimbabwe in 2nd T20I
Bangladesh continued their dominance over Zimbabwe in the five-match T20I series, securing a convincing six-wicket victory in the second encounter played at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Sunday. This win takes them to a commanding 2-0 lead in the series.
Chasing a modest target of 139 set by Zimbabwe, Bangladesh openers Liton Das (23) and Najmul Hossain Shanto (16) provided a solid start, reaching 56 before rain disrupted their momentum. After the break, Zimbabwe staged a mini-fightback with quick wickets through Luke Jongwe (2/35), but a crucial 49-run partnership between Towhid Hridoy (37) and the experienced Mahmudullah Riyad (26*) ensured Bangladesh crossed the finish line with 1.7 overs to spare.
Earlier, Zimbabwe, after electing to bat first, got off to a shaky start, slumping to 42/5. However, a spirited partnership between debutant Johnathan Campbell (45) and Brian Bennett (44*) brought them back into the game. Campbell, son of former Zimbabwe captain Alistair Campbell, smashed the highest score by a Zimbabwean debutant in a T20I, but his dismissal by Shoriful Islam halted their progress. Taskin Ahmed (2/18) and Rishad Hossain (2/33) were the pick of the Bangladeshi bowlers, restricting Zimbabwe to a below-par total.
This comprehensive victory follows Bangladesh’s eight-wicket triumph in the series opener on Friday. The teams will now lock horns in the third T20I at the same venue on Tuesday, with Zimbabwe needing a win to keep the series alive.
