Bindura Endures Power Outages as Mining Bull Rig Makes Way to Ran Mine

Bindura residents have been grappling with acute power cuts for the past 48 hours, causing significant disruptions to businesses and daily life in the small town. While the official line from authorities remains unclear, the outages appear to be linked to the movement of a massive bull rig used for mining operations.

The oversized equipment, transported on an abnormal load truck, necessitated the uprooting of electricity poles to create sufficient space for passage. This complex operation, coupled with an unfortunate incident where a Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) worker fell while disconnecting a power line, has resulted in the widespread blackouts currently affecting Bindura.

The specific reason for the equipment transfer is also shrouded in uncertainty. However, reports suggest it involves the relocation of the bull rig from the recently closed Trojan Mine, owned by Kuvimba Mining House, to the historically dormant Ran Mine. The revival of Ran Mine seems to be the intended goal, as the site has faced safety concerns due to illegal mining activity and tragic accidents, including a recent fatality in the past year.

While the revival of Ran Mine offers potential economic benefits and increased safety measures compared to illegal operations, the current power outages have caused frustration and disruption for Bindura residents. Businesses have been forced to halt operations, and daily routines have been significantly impacted.

Despite the inconvenience and lack of official communication, the situation highlights potential efforts to revitalize a long-dormant mine and address safety concerns in the area. However, the immediate need for transparency remains crucial, as residents deserve clear explanations regarding the ongoing power outages and the expected timeline for their resolution.

Authorities at ZESA and Kuvimba Mining House are urged to address the public’s concerns promptly and provide an official statement outlining the reasons for the power cuts, the progress of the equipment transfer, and the estimated timeframe for restoring electricity to Bindura.
