Bindura University of Science Education (BUSE) marked the World Bee Day 2025 celebrations by displaying its campus-made honey products, highlighting the university’s commitment to apiculture research and innovation.

The event, held on 20 May, ran under the theme Bee Inspiring Nature to Nourish Us All, focusing on the crucial role of bees in sustainable agriculture and food security.

Vice Chancellor Professor Eddie Mwenje, in a message delivered by Professor Johnson Masaka, stated that BUSE’s focus on apiculture research aligns with Education 5.0’s principles of industrialisation and job creation through practical application.

“Our ongoing honey production project at Glain Avelin farm is a testament to BUSE’s commitment to Education 5.0,” he said. “We are not just conducting research but actively producing, innovating, and creating value that directly benefits our communities and contributes to national development.”

The university showcased a diverse range of honey products, including body creams and edible goods, demonstrating the potential for value addition in apiculture.

Professor Masaka noted that the beekeeping project at Glain Avelin farm, part of the government’s efforts to boost food productivity, is progressing well and has strong potential for expansion.

“Our work at Bindura University of Science Education is directly linked to the World Bee Day theme, as we are nourishing communities through nature’s bounty,” he said.

Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Christopher Magomo, who officiated at the event, reaffirmed government support for agricultural innovation, a key pillar of Education 5.0.

Magomo urged stronger partnerships between government departments, local farmers, and BUSE, emphasising that collaboration is crucial for effective training and resource distribution, helping to advance sustainable agricultural practices as outlined in National Development Strategies 1 and 2.

“BUSE’s support for beekeeping enhances food security, improves livelihoods, and contributes to a knowledge-driven, self-sustainable economy,” he added.

BUSE also highlighted its Innovation Forum, which actively promotes agricultural development, natural product advancements, and market-driven opportunities.

Professor Masaka remarked that this initiative aligns with Education 5.0’s vision, positioning universities as centres of innovation, producing goods and services for societal benefit.
