The donation will benefit 100 families who lost their livelihoods in the blaze, which President Mnangagwa declared a State of Disaster.
Each family will receive US$35 to cover school fees and a package of stationery, including exercise books, pens, and pencils.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Chinese Ambassador Zhou Ding expressed his sympathy for the affected families and highlighted the importance of education.
“A friend in need is a friend indeed,” said Ambassador Ding. “My colleagues and I share the sorrow of our brothers and sisters here.”
“To complement the Government’s efforts for a speedy recovery of livelihoods, our embassy decided to support the school children from affected families with school fees and stationery to ensure that they are able to continue with education,” he added.
Ambassador Ding also emphasised the strong partnership between China and Zimbabwe.
