Controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo has gifted Daisy Mtukudzi, the widow of legendary musician Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi, a brand new Toyota Fortuner. Chivayo announced the gift on his social media pages, celebrating Tuku’s musical legacy and his contributions to Zimbabwe’s socio-political landscape.
In his post, Chivayo praised Tuku’s music, highlighting songs like “Hazvireve rudo handina,” “Mutserendende,” and “Right Direction.” He claimed that Tuku’s music united the nation and inspired the oppressed black majority to fight for freedom and equality.
Chivayo also acknowledged Tuku’s recognition as a national hero, a testament to his immense contribution to the country. As a tribute to Tuku, Chivayo decided to gift Daisy a Toyota Fortuner.
The gift has raised eyebrows, particularly given the recent tensions between Daisy and her stepdaughters, Sandra and Selmor Mtukudzi. The strain became evident during the inaugural Oliver Mtukudzi International Festival of the Arts (OMIFA), where Selmor experienced an emotional breakdown. In a recent interview, both Selmor and Sandra spoke candidly about the mistreatment they felt from Daisy, recalling painful memories of neglect and abandonment.
Chivayo’s gift to Daisy is a gesture of appreciation for Tuku’s legacy, but it also highlights the ongoing family drama surrounding the Mtukudzi family. As the Mtukudzi family continues to navigate these challenges, the memory of Tuku’s music and his enduring legacy remains a source of inspiration for many.
