Zimbabwe has recorded 44 confirmed cases of cholera since the latest outbreak began in November last year, the Ministry of Health and Child Care announced on Tuesday night.
According to the ministry’s report, 10 new suspected cases were identified on Tuesday, while the number of confirmed cholera deaths remains at two.
The latest outbreak emerged just three months after Zimbabwe declared the end of a previous 18-month-long cholera outbreak, which resulted in 718 cumulative deaths, including 87 confirmed through laboratory testing, according to the World Health Organization.
Cholera is common in Zimbabwe due to inadequate sanitation infrastructure and residents’ exposure to contaminated drinking water.
