A water spillage from Ran Mine in Bindura has raised fears of possible cyanide contamination among residents of Chipadze. The incident occurred early Friday morning following heavy rains on Thursday night.

Residents expressed concerns about health risks after seeing water overflowing from the mine into their homes and churches. Initial tests from Ran Mine claimed no contamination, but the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) is conducting further analysis.

“We were told the mine’s tests showed the water was safe, but we’re worried after seeing vegetables and trees affected,” said a Chipadze resident. EMA is on-site, collaborating with stakeholders to address the safety concerns.

Continuous assessment by joint authorities, including ZINWA and the Ministry of Health and Child Care, will continue until decontamination measures are successful.
