Cross-Border Cattle Rustlers Nabbed in Mozambique

Two livestock rustlers, one from Mozambique and the other from Zimbabwe, have been apprehended after stealing cattle and driving them across the border. This news highlights the ongoing issue of cross-border livestock theft in the region.

Blessmore Pachanza (27) from Mozambique and Edson Kamusha Kasambarare (25) from Zimbabwe allegedly stole a total of six cattle from Mukumbura, Zimbabwe between November 25th and 29th, 2023.

The National Prosecution Authority (NPA) reported that the duo took advantage of unattended cattle herds, driving the stolen animals to Madiemento Village Four in Mozambique.

The crimes came to light when the complainants, Cosmas Bikausi, Simbarashe Karewa, Wallace Chirekeni, and Persistence Hadaya, discovered their cattle missing.

Bikausi and Karewa, upon finding a trail, pursued the rustlers into Mozambique and apprehended them with two stolen cattle. The remaining stolen animals were recovered later.

Remanded for Sentencing

The NPA, represented by Mrs Pamela Chando, presented the case before Mr Naison Dhambuza at the Mt Darwin Magistrate Court. Pachanza and Kasambarare face four counts of stock theft and were remanded for sentencing.
