A former police officer from Eastview, Bindura, has been arrested after a video of him brutally assaulting his 10-year-old son went viral on social media. Noel Muzenda, 39, was caught on camera using an electric cable to beat his son, Frank, leaving the boy with severe injuries.

The incident occurred last week while Muzenda’s wife was away at a church conference. Frank had been sent to a local tuckshop to buy tomatoes but took longer than expected. Upon his return, Muzenda found him playing with other children and became enraged. He proceeded to beat Frank mercilessly, using an electric cable, bricks, and a tying wire.

The video of the assault quickly circulated online, sparking outrage and prompting authorities to intervene. Police arrested Muzenda and took the injured boy to a safe house. Frank sustained a swollen cheek, bruises on his back and right foot, and has been complaining of pain in his right ankle. He was referred to a hospital for medical examinations.

Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the arrest and said that investigations into the matter are ongoing.

“The accused person’s actions are deeply disturbing and will not be tolerated,” Inspector Chakanza said. “We are committed to protecting children and ensuring that justice is served.

Muzenda was previously dismissed from the police force in 2016 after being convicted of driving without a license. His arrest has raised concerns about the prevalence of child abuse in Zimbabwe and the need for stricter measures to prevent such horrific incidents.
