FC Platinum clinched their third Uhuru Cup title on 18 April 2025, following a nail-biting penalty shootout against Simba Bhora at Nembudziya Growth Point in Gokwe.

The match, delayed due to waterlogged conditions and fading daylight, was shortened to 15 minutes before heading straight to penalties.

The shootout showcased FC Platinum’s precision, with Misheck Ngwenya, Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya, and Thubelihle Jubane converting their spot-kicks, while Simba Bhora failed to score on their first three attempts.

Despite the challenges, FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza highlighted the significance of the event, stating: “It was nice to be here. It’s good for the people of Gokwe, it motivates the youngsters who watched us play. Zimbabwe has turned 45, and that was the most important thing.”

Herentals Queens defeated Black Rhinos, marking a historic moment for gender inclusivity in Zimbabwean football. In Bulawayo, Chicken Inn secured the Bulawayo Province Independence Cup with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Highlanders, while Ngezi Platinum claimed a 3–0 win over Mwos during Mashonaland West Independence Day festivities in Chegutu.

The Uhuru Cup serves as a platform to celebrate Zimbabwe’s independence and to inspire communities across the country, blending competitive spirit with cultural significance.
