A devastating fire swept through Magaba in Mbare late on Friday night, destroying property valued at thousands of dollars, leaving traders reeling from financial losses.

The inferno razed workshops, reducing essential tools and equipment, such as grinders, drills, plumbing supplies, and fridges, to ashes.

Speaking to ZBC News on Saturday, traders lamented the destruction, with Christopher Makopa, Chairperson of the Mukuvisi Manufacturing Traders Association, estimating that US$15,000 worth of property was lost.

“It is devastating that traders have been affected by this fire. I was informed by security and immediately rushed to assess the damage,” Makopa stated.
“I want to thank the fire brigade for their swift response, as things could have been much worse.”

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that authorities are working closely with the Fire Brigade to establish the cause of the blaze.

This incident comes barely a year after another fire gutted Mbare Musika vegetable market in 2024, causing significant financial strain on traders who had no means to recover their losses.

Authorities urge the public to exercise caution, especially in commercial areas, as investigations into the latest fire outbreak continue.
