Former Dembare Star Norman Maroto Dies at 40
Former Dynamos and Gunners star Norman Maroto has passed away at the age of 40, leaving the football community in mourning.
Maroto, who held the record for most goals scored in a single season in the domestic Premier Soccer League, died in the early hours of Friday morning. The cause of his death is yet to be confirmed, but close associates suspect it may be related to the current flu outbreak.
The Footballers Union of Zimbabwe (FUZ) confirmed his death in a statement, saying, “Footballers Union of Zimbabwe would like to notify friends and all football stakeholders on the untimely passing of our Communications Officer, Norman Maroto.”
Maroto had an illustrious career in football, setting a record by scoring over 20 goals in a single season in the domestic Premier Soccer League. His exceptional performance led him to claim the Golden Boot award after scoring 22 goals while playing for now-defunct Chando Kupisa fourteen years ago.
Beginning his career at De-Mbare, he transitioned through various teams before making significant contributions to the Gunners Football Club under Moses Chunga’s leadership.
