Four Fatal Accidents Leave 15 Dead Across Zimbabwe

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has confirmed four fatal road traffic accidents that occurred in Norton, Chegutu, and Mutare on 28th March 2025, claiming 15 lives and leaving many injured.

One of the incidents took place at the 30-kilometre peg along the Harare-Bulawayo Road at approximately 4:25 PM, when a Nissan Caravan kombi carrying 20 passengers veered off the road and overturned. Tragically, three adults and an infant were killed instantly, with three more victims succumbing to their injuries at Norton Hospital. A further 12 passengers sustained injuries in the crash.

A separate collision occurred at the 85-kilometre peg of the same road at around 5:32 PM. The accident involved a Chevrolet Trail Blazer and a Toyota Hilux. Preliminary investigations revealed that the Chevrolet attempted to overtake the Toyota as it was turning right, resulting in a collision that caused the Hilux to overturn. The crash left three people dead and two others hospitalised at Chegutu General Hospital.

In another tragic incident on Pickstone-Burn Bank Road in Chegutu, a Toyota Toace truck with 11 passengers on board lost control at a curve and veered off the road at around 3:45 PM. Two people died instantly, and nine others were thrown from the vehicle, sustaining injuries.

In Mutare, a Volvo haulage truck overturned near the Wise Owl turn-off at 10:30 AM, killing all three of its passengers. The victims’ bodies were taken to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital for post-mortem examinations.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has urged motorists to adhere to road rules and exercise patience while driving. Commissioner Nyathi stressed, “Drivers must remain vigilant, avoid speeding, and never overtake where it is unsafe to do so. Lives depend on caution and adherence to safety regulations.”
