Gcaba Family Denies Link to AKA’s Murder
Durban, South Africa – The Gcaba family, a prominent South African family, has vehemently denied allegations that one of its members played a role in the 2023 murder of rapper AKA, whose real name was Kiernan Forbes.
The denial comes after prosecutors in the ongoing trial of AKA’s alleged killers implicated Sydney Mfundo Gcaba, a member of the family, in the rapper’s death.
Last Wednesday, the investigating officer presented a statement to the court claiming that a company linked to Mr. Gcaba transferred over 800,000 rand (approximately USD 42,000 or GBP 33,000) to the bank account of Mziwethemba Harvey Gwabeni, one of the suspects on trial for the rapper’s murder.
The Gcaba family has publicly refuted these claims. A spokesperson for the family stated, “We categorically deny any involvement in the tragic death of Mr. Forbes. The alleged financial transaction is purely a business deal unrelated to this case. We have full faith in the South African justice system and trust that the truth will prevail.”
The murder of AKA and his friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane sent shockwaves through the South African music industry and beyond. The ongoing trial of the seven suspects continues, with the financial transaction between Mr. Gcaba’s company and Mr. Gwabeni being a key point of contention.
The outcome of the trial is expected to shed light on the motive and circumstances surrounding the rapper’s death.
