While celebrating crossing over into 2024, a Kusikwenyu family of Marirambada Farm, Guruve ended the day in tears after their son was murdered over gumboots.
According to police, on January 1, 2024, Isaac Kusikwenyu (33) went to Bayisai Scotch’s (28) homestead in the same farm compound to ask for his money, for gumboots his mother had sold to him.
A misunderstanding arose between the two, they started fighting and they were refrained by their neighbours. Kusikwenyu returned to his homestead and came back armed with a log.
He struck Scotch once on the head and he sustained a swollen head.
In retaliation, Scotch also took a log which was near his kitchen hut and struck Kusikwenyu once on the left side of the head.
Kusikwenyu sustained a deep cut on the head and became unconscious.
He was ferried to Camsasa Clinic, Guruve by his brother, Kelvin and further referred to Guruve Hospital.
On January 02, 2024, at around 0900 hours, Kusikwenyu died.
Scotch has since been arrested.
Deputy provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Tonny Nyandoro said it is so disturbing that we have lost a life as a result of a small dispute that could have been avoided.
“We urge members of the public to solve their disputes peacefully without resorting to violence. “Members of the public should desist from taking the law into their own hands,” he said.
People are urged to seek the services of the responsible authorities whenever they have social disputes.
