Harare Man Jailed for Sodomising an Elderly Man

A 45-year-old Hopely man, Samuel Chipakacha, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 60-year-old neighbour after a drinking session, while a Nyazura mechanic received 20 years for abusing his teenage son in a separate case. The
In the first case, Harare Regional Magistrate Jesse Kufa condemned Chipakacha’s “violation of trust” after he assaulted the elderly man at his home on 23 February 2025.
Prosecutor Shambadzeni Fungura detailed how Chipakacha followed the intoxicated victim from Uncle Grey Shebeen in Hopely and committed the crime.
A witness, Kindness Mavhura, alerted authorities after stumbling upon the assault. Medical evidence confirmed the attack.
In Nyazura, a 40-year-old mechanic (name withheld) admitted to sodomising his 13-year-old son, claiming a traditional healer advised the abuse to “boost his business.”
The teen fled to Rusape streets in March 2025 after months of abuse, later reuniting with his mother. Rusape Magistrate Francis Mapfumo imposed the maximum 20-year term, stating: “Your moral blameworthiness leaves no room for leniency.”
Prosecutor Marlon Makamba confirmed medical reports from Rusape General Hospital supported the child’s account.
The father had earlier driven the boy’s mother from their home to enable the crimes.
