Hitchhiker Robbed of US$17,775 by Touts in Bulawayo
Bulawayo, Zimbabwe – March 30, 2024 – Three touts are wanted by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) for robbing a hitchhiker of a significant sum of cash on Friday, March 29th, 2024.
Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the ZRP national spokesperson, confirmed the incident which occurred at the corner of 1st Avenue and Samuel Parirenyatwa Street in Bulawayo.
“Police in Bulawayo are investigating a case of theft,” said Nyathi. “Three unidentified male suspects, believed to be touts, approached the victim at a designated hitching spot. They then stole a pink satchel containing US$17,775, believed to be cash from daily sales, before fleeing the scene.”
The substantial amount of stolen cash highlights the dangers of carrying large sums of money while hitchhiking. Police are urging anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspects to come forward.
“We encourage anyone with details about this crime to report it at their nearest police station,” said Nyathi. “Information can also be submitted anonymously through our confidential reporting channels.”
