Kondowe, who leaves behind a wife and four children, was buried in Hurungwe yesterday.
Officer Commanding Prisons and Correctional Services in Mashonaland West, Commissioner Luke Zondai Makuvire, paid tribute to Kondowe, describing him as a loyal and disciplined officer.
“He will continue to be mourned by many who knew him personally or by reputation,” said Commissioner Makuvire. “For those who were privileged to work with him, I have no doubt they have lost a darling and very close friend.”
Kondowe joined the prison service in 2001 and served at various prisons, including Hurungwe, Chinhoyi, and Kadoma. He was promoted to Assistant Principal Officer in 2019.
Prisons and Correctional Services National Spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Elizabeth Kanyeze, also praised Kondowe’s dedication and work ethic.
“He was a hard worker who worked with minimum supervision,” said
Assistant Commissioner Kanyeze. “He was a self-motivator. As a section, we are deeply hurt by his sudden loss. He was someone who had cultivated a good working relationship with other stakeholders.”
Chinhoyi Prison Advisory Board Member, Musa Kombo, expressed his condolences and highlighted Kondowe’s positive impact on the community.
“His death is a great loss,” Kombo said. “This is very painful. It’s not only the prison that has lost a good cadre but the whole community. Kondowe was a man of the people.”
