Impending Thunderstorms to Affect Zimbabwe for Six Days
The Meteorological Services Department has issued a warning that Zimbabwe will experience thunderstorms for six consecutive days, starting from October 29th to November 3rd. The regions of Matabeleland South, Bulawayo, Masvingo, and Manicaland are expected to be the first to be impacted.
During this time, the public is advised to be cautious of strong winds, lightning, hailstorms, heavy localized rainfall, fallen trees, damaged roofs, and loose debris.
According to the Meteorological Services Department, a cloud band is slowly approaching the country from the Atlantic Ocean, passing through Botswana. It is projected to reach the western borders of Zimbabwe late on Saturday and sweep across the country from Sunday, October 29th, until Friday, November 3rd. As a consequence, scattered thunderstorms are anticipated throughout the country.
The thunderstorms are expected to be accompanied by lightning, heavier localized rainfall (up to 30mm), strong winds, and hailstorms.
To ensure safety during thunderstorms, it is recommended to stay indoors and refrain from using electrical appliances, as they are vulnerable to lightning strikes. It is also advisable to repair any roof leakages and consider installing surge protectors and lightning conductors if possible, as additional precautionary measures.
Farmers are urged to take necessary precautions to protect both their crops and livestock. They are also advised to cover their plants to safeguard them from potential damage caused by hailstorms.
