Prominent lawyer Advocate Elatone Bonongwe, who is based in Mt Darwin and known for his legal firm Bonongwe and Partners, is set to appear at the Bindura Magistrate Court today, Monday, October 30th. He stands implicated allegedly in a case of armed robbery which occurred early last week.
The arrest of Advocate Bonongwe over the weekend has shocked the local community and legal fraternity alike. He stands accused of allegedly hiring a gang of robbers to carry out a violent attack on Engineer Emson Chitsungo, the Chief Engineer of Pfura Rural District Council (RDC).
The case revolves around a daring burglary that occurred at Engineer Chitsungo’s residence, leaving him injured and traumatized. The local community has been eagerly awaiting the legal proceedings to shed light on the allegations against Advocate Bonongwe.
The advocate’s arrest came after police arrested four armed robbers last week on Thursday along the Harare – Mukumbura Highway who had different dangerous weapons and allegedly implicated him saying he had hired them to break into one of the council official’s house.
Before his arrest, Advocate Bonongwe always tried to expose the “rot” at Pfura RDC and attacked the council’s top management including the CEO, a Mr Nyachowe, the town engineer, Mr. Chitsungo and their treasurer many times on WhatsApp.
Since his arrest, this is his first appearance before a magistrate.
