As school loses entire roof

An entire Tsenga Primary school roof was blown off, while 15 families were left homeless after a heavy hailstorm accompanied by thunder and lightning swept through Mt Darwin Ward 5, on Wednesday.

Two homesteads in Magaratsi and Mupfumbate villages were struck and burnt in the event though occupants managed to escape, however, they lost all belongings.
Ward councillor, Rainesi Beny said these families are now in dire need of clothing and food.

She said, “We have since stopped pupils to come to school while those whose block was not affected continued with their lessons. We are however optimistic that the government will come to their rescue as has been the norm always. We are also looking forward to seeing the affected families getting food aid,” she said.

The government through the Civil Protection Unit is ready to deal with such catastrophes and all will be sorted in a short time. The community received light showers Wednesday afternoon, accompanied by heavy thunderstorms and lightning.

Tsenga Primary School has four classroom blocks, three blocks were affected by the hailstorm. Mid-last month, another hailstorm blew off the entire Hermiston Primary School roof in Glendale.

It also left nearly 254 homesteads around Henderson Research Centre with leaking roofs.
