Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland Central, Christopher Magomo, awarded certificates to thirteen bee farmers during the World Bee Day commemorations at Bindura University of Science Education on Tuesday, 20 May 2025.

This year’s World Bee Day was observed under the theme Bee Inspired by Nature to Nourish Us All, celebrating the vital role bees play in pollination, food security, and environmental sustainability.

Speaking at the event, Magomo praised local bee farmers for their contributions to Mashonaland Central’s agricultural development, recognising their role in maintaining biodiversity and supporting the economy.

“I applaud the Bee Keepers Association of Zimbabwe for their pioneering work in research, training, and community engagement,” Magomo said. “Your efforts align with the government’s vision of innovation.”

A representative from the Mazowe Bee Farmers Association, Mrs Tapomo, highlighted the progress made by local farmers in refining their bee-related products, noting that this would strengthen their contributions to the country’s economy.

“In line with President Mnangagwa’s vision for inclusive growth, every farmer and every citizen should work towards conserving bees,” she stated.

“We cannot live without bees, so everyone should safeguard this little creature to promote our nation’s economic growth, improve our health, and boost food security.”

The awarded certificates mark the successful completion of specialist training programmes, equipping local bee farmers with advanced techniques to enhance honey production and improve livelihoods across the province.
