The distribution of cases across the district stands at:

  • Nyamhunga – 24%
  • Msampakaruma – 30%
  • Kanyati – 10%
  • Kasvisva – 10%
  • Gatchegatche – 8%
  • Mahombekombe & Siakobvu – 6% each

While no large-scale malaria campaigns are currently in place, health education sessions continue at community and health facility levels.

According to Kariba District Medical Officer, Dr Godwin Muza, preparations had been made ahead of the anticipated surge. “Malaria commodities including test kits, medicines, and other essential supplies had already been positioned at all health facilities, with daily and weekly monitoring to prevent stockouts.”

Malaria transmission in Kariba occurs year-round, with seasonal peaks between April and June. Health officials urge residents to adopt personal protective measures such as:

  • Using mosquito repellents, insecticide sprays, and mosquito coils
  • Wearing long-sleeved clothing
  • Sleeping under long-lasting insecticidal-treated mosquito nets
  • Clearing overgrown bushes and stagnant water near homes

Dr Muza encourages anyone experiencing malaria symptoms to seek early testing and treatment at their nearest health facility or through community-based health workers in rural areas.
