Today, the National Association of Secondary School Heads (NASH) Executive held a press conference at Chipadze High School in Bindura, announcing that Mashonaland Central will host the esteemed NASH games. Scheduled from April 1st to 4th, 2025, this significant event promises to be a monumental milestone for the province.

Between 1,500 to 2,000 sportspeople from across Zimbabwe are set to converge in Bindura, presenting a remarkable opportunity for the province and Chipadze High School. This annual event rotates among the ten provinces of Zimbabwe, and now it’s Mashonaland Central’s turn to shine.

Director of Education Services, Mr Taganda, representing the Provincial Education Director for Mashonaland Central, Dr Mangwiro, addressed the gathering. He highlighted the theme of this year’s athletics competition: “Running Against Drug Addiction, Empowering a Healthy Nation.”

“We are here for a highly valued preparatory meeting for athletics that will be hosted by this province from the 1st to the 4th of April,” he said. “Athletics will be part of our Heritage Based Curriculum to fight against drug abuse. This event will showcase the talent of learners from throughout the nation.”

He emphasised the importance of sports in combating drug abuse and promoting a healthy lifestyle among students. “As we do this, we educate our learners that there are other things that can make you thrive besides drowning yourself in drugs. You can entertain yourself through athletics. You can earn a living through athletics.”

Preparations are in full swing at Chipadze High School, with activities to ensure everything meets state-of-the-art standards. The school is currently at 70% completion for building a new stadium and tracks for the event.

Minister Donates Borehole to Ensure Water Supply

Mrs Kamupinda, Headmistress of Chipadze High School, expressed gratitude for the support received. “We want to thank our Minister for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Magomo, who has donated a borehole to ensure plenty of clean water,” she said. “This gesture not only ensures sufficient water supply during the event but also benefits the school and community in the future.”

She added, “We are happy to be hosting this edition of the National Association of Secondary Schools Athletics competitions in our public school. All roads are leading to Chipadze High School, and everyone is most welcome.”

A new entertainment segment is introduced this year, focusing on the national dress. “All the provinces are going to prepare costumes using our national dress,” Mrs Kamupinda explained. “After running on the track, athletes will showcase their diverse cultures. It’s all about our national dress.”

Mr Charles Chiguware, NASH Mashonaland Central Provincial Chairperson, expressed confidence and excitement. “Mashonaland Central will hold games to remember. This is the province of gold; let us come prepared for competition,” he declared. “We are not only going to make numbers; we are prepared to win this competition. We will be hosts with a difference.”

All eight districts of Mashonaland Central—Bindura, Mbire, Guruve, Mount Darwin, Rushinga, Shamva, Mazowe, and Muzarabani—will participate, alongside the other nine provinces. Athlete selection is underway, starting at zonal levels and progressing through district and provincial stages.

Provincial government departments are activated to guarantee the smooth running of the event. The Ministry of Health assures measures are in place to prevent and contain any potential disease outbreaks, ensuring the health of athletes and their teams. Security forces are engaged to provide a safe environment for all participants and visitors.

Mr Tonderayi Mushore, Schools Inspector for Sports, Arts and Culture in Mashonaland Central Province, provided an update on the preparations. “We are at an advanced stage of our preparations, almost at 70%,” he noted. “We are renovating the grounds to make them world-class standards. We hope to use these grounds for a test run when we hold inter-district qualifier games before the NASH games to ensure the facilities are ready and fit for purpose.”

Mr Taganda assured, “We have engaged the Provincial Medical Director, who has assured us of maximum support to ensure safety for learners and our visitors. Nobody should fear coming to Mashonaland Central; they will be safe and free from any ailments.”

This event not only showcases the province’s beauty and amenities but also boosts local businesses and tourism. It is expected to leave a lasting legacy by improving local sports and providing a platform for identifying future world-class athletes.
