A 35-year-old Mazowe man is on the run after stabbing his wife over Christmas money last Friday. He also killed his brother-in-law on the same day.
Provincial police deputy spokesperson Assistant Inspector Tonny Nyandoro identified him as Nelson Nyatsanga of Belford Farm and the deceased as Musa Saidi, of the same address.
He said on December 22 at around 1830pm, at the aforementioned address, Gladys Saidi bade Nyatsanga fare well, at their homestead at Biggie Biggie Shops, as she wanted to leave for Guruve for Christmas.
She asked for Christmas money from Nyatsanga and was given US$40.00. Nyatsanga had US$1000.00 and Gladys was not pleased with her share.
A scuffle ensued between the two and Nyatsanga assaulted Gladys with a chisel. She screamed, attracting the attention of her brother Musa Saidi who ran to the scene to refrain Nyatsanga from further beating Gladys.
“The accused person rushed into his bedroom and came out wielding a Colombian knife and stabbed Musa once on the right side of the stomach and he fell.
“The accused fled the scene with his knife.”
A Good Samaritan rushed the siblings to Concession Hospital where Musa was pronounced dead on admission. Gladys is admitted and her condition is stable.
The accused is on the run with police appealing to couples to solve their differences amicably. “We urge members of the public to solve family disputes amicably and respect the sanctity of life.”
“They should seek assistance from the police, church leaders, traditional leaders or elders to solve some family issues. Members of the public are also discouraged from taking the law into their own hands,” Ass Insp Nyandoro said.
