Mob Kills Man Accused of Stealing US$450 in Madziva
Police in Shamva are investigating a case of mob justice that occurred in Madziwa last week on Sunday, May 05 when members of the public attacked an unidentified man at Corner Store accusing him of stealing a satchel that contained USD 450.00.
The mob allegedly bashed him until he could not walk nor talk, bleeding profusely from the nose and mouth.
ZRP officers speaking on condition of anonymity for professional reasons said the victim suffered severe head injuries during the merciless attack.
The accused was rushed to Shamva Hospital for urgent medical attention on the same day after the harsh treatment, but tragically, his condition deteriorated rapidly. He later succumbed to the injuries.
On their X page, police wrote, “Police in Shamva are investigating a case of murder which occurred on 05/05/24 near Corner Store, Madziwa in which a yet-to-be-identified male adult died. The victim was assaulted by a mob after he allegedly stole a satchel containing US$450.00 cash.”
“The victim succumbed to the head injuries sustained during the assault while on admission at Shamva Hospital. Anyone with information to report at any nearest Police Station,” reads the statement.
The police went on to urge members of the public to desist from putting the law into their hands.
They are encouraging members of the public to effect citizen arrest on criminals but never to discipline them.
