42-year-old man from Mount Darwin has been sentenced to four years in prison after admitting to a violent robbery in which he and accomplices attacked a couple in their home while they slept.

Phillip Muchapambwa appeared before the Mount Darwin Magistrates’ Court on 1 July 2025, where he pleaded guilty to charges of robbery.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the incident occurred when Muchapambwa and his co-accused broke into the home of Tirivanhu Madenyika and his wife, armed with wooden logs and a knife.

The robbers demanded money, prompting Madenyika to hand over US$300 hidden beneath his pillow. His wife surrendered US$150 but was still assaulted and threatened with a knife.

The gang ransacked the property, stealing two mobile phones—an Itel A90 and an Itel A14. Muchapambwa was later apprehended by detectives at an illegal mining site in Masasa, Mazowe.

Police recovered both stolen phones and US$160 in cash from his possession. The case has reignited calls for victim community security and swift justice for victims of violent crime.
