Paedophile Bindura Teacher Jailed for 15 Years

A 36-year-old Bindura teacher was on Monday sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to three counts of raping a 12-year-old on different dates in June 2023.

Norest Mathew Maripfonde, a private teacher at Bindura College of Excellence, appeared at the Bindura magistrate court before Mr. Shingirai Mutiro.

The State was represented by Mr. Edward Katsvairo who told the court that the accused, on the first count took the juvenile whom he was in love with, to a secluded place near Bindura Civil Court along a gravel road and had sex with her without her consent.

Mr. Katsvairo said the accused took the juvenile to the secluded place parked his car and went on to pull her trousers and pants down. He also pulled his trousers and pants down to knee level and wore a condom and went on to rape her.

After the act, Maripfonde reportedly drove the juvenile back home, after cautioning her against telling anyone about the act.

Mr Katsvairo said on count two, Maripfonde met the juvenile at the Mt Darwin bus station at around 9 am, where she wanted to buy fresh chips and called her to his silver car. He again drove her to the dust road towards the Bindura Civil Court and raped her again.

The juvenile went back home and kept the abuse issue her secret.

On June 30, the juvenile was again grabbed and forced into the accused’s car along Hay Road by the accused after she had refused to entertain him when he called her. According to Mr Katsvairo, this happened around 8 pm.

He told the court that around the aforementioned time, the complainant escorted her friend to her place along Hay Road. While on their way, the accused reportedly approached and called her into his car but she refused.

The accused parked his car and walked to the juvenile and dragged her to his car and again drove to the secluded place close to the civil court and raped her.

He later drove the 12-year-old back home around 3 am.

Her parents in the morning then took her to ZRP Bindura Central where she then narrated her ordeal leading to Maripfonde’s arrest and subsequent court appearance and sentencing.

Maripfonde would put on a condom as she raped his pupil.
