Police Issue Eviction Order on Mazowe Illegal Miners
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has issued a stern warning to illegal miners operating in the Mazowe area, ordering them to vacate Mazowe Mine Lease 35 by July 13th. This directive comes as deadly machete battles have erupted amongst rival groups, highlighting the escalating dangers in the region.
In a statement released today, ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi emphasized, “The Zimbabwe Republic Police… takes the opportunity to warn illegal occupants of mining sites and those perpetuating criminal activities to take heed of the notice and vacate or leave the indicated areas by the given period.”
The eviction notice, issued by the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development, covers a vast area from near ZRP Mazowe to Concession. Commissioner Nyathi cautioned that those who defy the order or engage in criminal activities will face the full force of the law.
The ZRP is appealing to the public to cooperate with police efforts to restore law and order in the Mazowe mine area. This crackdown aims to curb the rising violence and illegal activities that have plagued the region.
The government’s intervention comes at a critical time, as Mazowe has seen a surge in deadly clashes between rival mining gangs, resulting in tragic loss of life.
This operation seeks to reclaim control of the mines and restore safety for both miners and local communities.
