Teacher Electrocuted in Tree-Cutting Accident

The deceased, identified as Mr Goni, was reportedly cutting tree branches behind the Mutara Complex in Sadza township when the incident occurred.

The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, but sources allege that Mr Goni’s equipment came into contact with live Zesa power lines.

“Mr Goni was cutting branches from a tree behind Mutara Complex,” a source familiar with the incident revealed. “I am sure that’s how he got electrocuted.”

This tragic event highlights the economic challenges faced by Zimbabwean civil servants, including teachers, who are forced to take on additional, often risky, work to supplement their meagre salaries.

The government’s response to the plight of civil servants and the prevalence of unsafe working conditions in informal sectors remains a pressing concern.
