Text Message Sparks Deadly Encounter in Manicaland

A seemingly innocuous “Call Me Back” text message tragically resulted in the death of Happymore Zimunya (43) in Chitiyo Village, Zimbabwe. The incident highlights the dangers of infidelity and the potential for impulsive actions with devastating consequences.

According to Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, acting spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Manicaland Province, the victim, Zimunya, was involved in an extramarital affair with Natasha (20), the wife of Zvanaka Zengera (40). The chain of events leading to the murder unfolded on March 2nd when Zengera discovered the incriminating text message on his wife’s phone. Despite Natasha’s denials, Zengera, fueled by suspicion, devised a plan to confront the suspected lover.

Feigning Natasha’s identity, Zengera texted Zimunya, luring him to their homestead under the pretence of a funeral gathering where Zengera himself would be absent. Unaware of the trap, Zimunya arrived at the residence, where Zengera, lying in wait, attacked him with a wooden object. The brutal assault continued even as Zimunya attempted to escape, resulting in severe head injuries.

Though a neighbour intervened upon hearing Zimunya’s cries for help, the damage was already done. The victim returned home, where he lied to his wife about the cause of his injuries. It was only at the hospital, after succumbing to his wounds, that Zimunya confessed to the affair and the subsequent attack.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the destructive consequences that can stem from infidelity and uncontrolled jealousy. The ZRP is investigating the matter further, with Zengera likely to face murder charges.
