Uncle Jailed for 15 Years After Raping 11-Year-Old Niece

A 19-year-old man from Figtree has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for raping his 11-year-old niece. The Plumtree Magistrates’ Court handed down the verdict on 2 April 2025 after the girl bravely disclosed the assault in a letter to her teacher.
The court heard that in February 2025, the victim returned from school and was changing in her bedroom when the accused lured her to the sitting room. He then dragged her to a bedroom, threatened her with an okapi knife, gagged her, and raped her. The traumatised child initially kept silent but later confided in her teacher, leading to the uncle’s arrest.
