ZANU PF has expelled outspoken war veteran and Central Committee member Blessed “Bombshell” Geza for opposing the extension of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s rule beyond the constitutionally mandated two-term limit. The decision, announced by ZANU PF’s Secretary for Legal Affairs, Patrick Chinamasa, follows recommendations from the party’s disciplinary committee.
Geza, who has been a vocal critic of the party’s leadership, was accused of indiscipline, fostering factionalism, and making statements deemed treasonous. His expulsion comes amid growing tensions within ZANU PF over the party’s 2030 agenda, which seeks to extend Mnangagwa’s tenure beyond 2028.
“Cde Geza’s utterances sought to undermine the party leadership and the state machinery, amounting to treason,” said Chinamasa. “He violated Article 19(1) of the party’s constitution, which requires loyalty and prohibits actions that bring the party into disrepute.”
Geza, who leads a faction of disgruntled war veterans, has been critical of corruption within the party and government. His expulsion is seen as a move to consolidate Mnangagwa’s authority and quash dissent ahead of the 2030 agenda.
Chinamasa emphasised that the decision reflects ZANU PF’s commitment to discipline and unity.
“From today onwards, we will be known as a no-nonsense party. Any mischief, factionalism, or misbehaviour will not be tolerated. We must preserve our unity and discipline those who threaten it,” he added.
Geza’s expulsion follows similar actions against other party members, including MP Benjamin Ganyiwa and Godwin Gomwe, who were also accused of indiscipline. The move underscores the party’s determination to maintain control amid internal divisions and growing opposition to its policies.
