ZBC Restructuring Underway: Editorial Team Faces Shakeup

The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) is undergoing a period of significant change with a restructuring exercise planned for the editorial department. This news comes following the appointment of a new board led by Helliate Rushwaya and the resignation of former CEO Adelaide Chikunguru.

Sources close to ZBC report that the Director of News, Current Affairs, and Television Services, Albert Chekai, is likely to be reassigned. Allegations suggest Chekai’s appointment bypassed security clearance protocols and that he may have engaged in financial impropriety related to presidential foreign trips. Veteran broadcaster Reuben Barwe is also mentioned as being sidelined during Chekai’s tenure.

The new board, reportedly mandated by Information Minister Jenifan Muswere to address issues at ZBC, is taking steps to rectify the situation. Several previously suspended employees, including Tendai Munengwa, have been recalled.

This news follows similar changes at Zimpapers, another state-owned media organization, where a new board recently implemented editorial reshuffles.
