ZESA Faces Challenges with Technical Faults
Zimbabwe’s power utility, ZESA, is currently grappling with technical faults across the country, leading to reduced power generation and increased load shedding. This recent development has left consumers greatly impacted, with businesses and day-to-day operations suffering as a result.
In a statement, ZESA acknowledged the presence of these technical faults, particularly at the Hwange Power Station. The power utility urged people to use the limited available power sparingly while they address the issues.
“We would like to inform our valued customers that we are experiencing depressed generation owing to technical faults which have recently occurred at Hwange Power Station,” stated ZESA.
“These incidents have resulted in an increase in load shedding. Furthermore, we would like to notify stakeholders that Hwange Unit 7, which was synchronized in March 2023, is scheduled for Class C maintenance. This maintenance procedure is a statutory requirement and involves taking the unit off the grid for a defined period. The work is expected to be completed within 30 days.”
ZESA assured customers that they are working tirelessly to restore normalcy and implement measures to mitigate the severity of load shedding. Consumers are urged to use electricity sparingly during this period.
Furthermore, ZESA also faced additional challenges last week when a hailstorm damaged infrastructure, including power lines. The company cited that addressing faults in most areas would require more time.
Despite the difficulties faced by ZESA, they remain committed to resolving these technical faults and ensuring the reliable provision of electricity to their customers.
