The Airports Company of Zimbabwe (ACZ) has confirmed plans for a significant infrastructure expansion that will extend into 2026, centred on the construction of new Cargo Villages at key aviation hubs including Robert Mugabe International Airport in Harare and Victoria Falls International Airport.

This development comes amid rising passenger and freight traffic, reflecting growing economic activity and demand in the aviation sector. ACZ Chief Executive Officer Mr Tawanda Gusha highlighted a “remarkable increase in traffic as at the end of September year on year” and credited a collaborative national strategy led by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development for this upward trend.

A Cargo Village integrates critical cargo operations such as warehousing, cold storage, customs clearance, forwarding agents, and cargo handling into one efficient and secure location. This modernisation aims to reduce processing times, improve handling for perishable and high-value goods, and strengthen Zimbabwe’s position as a regional trade and logistics hub.

Mr Gusha explained that these projects align with the National Development Strategy 1 and the transition to National Development Strategy 2 en route to Vision 2030. The planned developments include solar photovoltaic plants that underpin ACZ’s commitment to sustainability alongside economic growth.
