An agricultural initiative led by Innscor Africa Limited’s PHI/IL Integrated Agri division is enhancing potato production and market security for small-scale farmers in Zimbabwe, particularly within the Banket farming community. The project employs precision agriculture techniques combined with supply chain support to deliver record-breaking yields.

PHI director Graeme Murdoch attributed the success in Banket to a shift from traditional farming methods towards personalised approaches. Farmers have benefited from the use of Nutrimaster fertilisers, which are specifically tailored based on detailed soil sampling of their individual fields.

These fertilisers, combined with Optichem crop protection chemicals, have contributed to substantial yield improvements, turning farmers’ aspirations into “bumper harvests”. The initiative demonstrates practical benefits, improving commercial viability for participating growers.

Encouraged by the positive outcomes, Innscor is expanding its strategy to support the broader small-scale sector, which is estimated to produce approximately 75 percent of Zimbabwe’s total table potato crop. This rollout aims to replicate the success seen in Banket across other farming communities.

The initiative represents a significant step in modernising Zimbabwe’s agricultural practices, fostering increased productivity, and securing market opportunities for farmers through scientific intervention and supply chain integration.
